Volunteer & Foster Program Internship
Our Volunteer & Foster Program Intern will assist the Volunteer & Foster Coordinator in all daily aspects of running a successful volunteer and animal foster program. At any given time HSWM has over 200 volunteers and fosters that the organization relies on to help enrich the lives of the animals in our care.
Our Volunteer & Foster Program Intern will provide critical support during the season when we are faced with an influx of animals and need stability in our Volunteer Program. We are looking for someone with loves animals and people, is interested in learning more about animal shelter operations, and can work independently on projects. Daily responsibilities will include assisting in the care of shelter animals, putting together foster kits and assisting with sending animals out to foster, cleaning, socializing animals, assisting with the training of new volunteers, inputting volunteer information in the tracking program, etc.
All internships through HSWM are unpaid but provide a flexible schedule with the expectation of 10 - 20 hours of work per week.
Humane Education Program Internship
Our Humane Education Program Intern will assist our Humane Education Coordinator with many day-to-day tasks as well as engage in longer term projects and proposals. We are looking for someone interested in learning more about the shelter from an education/community engagement standpoint. Each summer, hundreds of kids attend our day camps where they learn about animal welfare and care, engage in fun activities, and all around have a great experience learning more about the shelter! Our Education Program Intern will create and send out communication materials, assist with animal handling for day camps, research new camp opportunities, create a proposal for a new camp program at HSWM, and more! This is an unpaid position, 10-15 hours per week, with flexible daily hours.
All internships through HSWM are unpaid but provide a flexible schedule with the expectation of 10 - 20 hours of work per week.
These positions are aimed at incoming college students or those seeking college or work share credits. If interested, please email lumlor@hswestmi.org for more information.
